My reading for pleasure book, “Dear John” by Nicholas Sparks, attracts me not only by its plot but also by its vocabulary. I found several words in the book which are connected with surfing because the main character is fond of it. So I’d like to share them with you:

Swell [swɛl] is

the slow up and down movement of the sea with large but smooth waves.

To paddle [pædl] is

to swim using short, quick movement with your arms and legs.

To pop up [pɒp] [əp] is

to move from a paddling position to a surfing stance.

To wipe out [waɪp] [out] is

to lose control and fall off the board.

Now I’m glad that you can enrich the vocabulary such interesting words too.
